As mentioned on Google Plus, I'm working on a new crowdfunding campaign set to begin in January of 2014 on Indiegogo.
In case you don't know, I am the author of Barrowmaze I and II, a popular two-part old school megadungeon that finished second in this year's Three Castles Award for Independent Game Design at the North Texas RPGcon (NTRPGcon).
In brief, my plan with the new crowfund is to combine the two Barrowmaze books into a definitive single volume entitled Barrowmaze Complete with new material, art, professional design and layout. Ex-TSR artist Erol Otus has agreed to provide the cover art! Woot! Woot!
Alongside Barrowmaze Complete, I am working closely with Richard Scott of Otherworld Miniatures to create a new boxed set of Official Barrowmaze Monsters, similar to the DAB series of fantasy adventurers. This will be very cool :)
Consider this an early "Save the Date" notice and please keep the campaign in mind in January. More news and details to follow. I would certainly appreciate you passing the word along your networks.
I'm headed out tomorrow morning for NTRPGcon in the DFW.
I'm running a scheduled Barrowmaze game on Friday morning, with the possibility of a pickup game Saturday subject to interest.
All the games I wanted to play were closed hours after registration (which was at 1am est, I believe), so I plan on surfing games with a notion to observe DMing styles. I'm very interested in watching the TSR guys do their thing :)
As you might know, Barrowmaze is a finalist for the 2013 Three Castles award which will be announced on Saturday (from what I'm told). Interestingly, BM is the only adventure/scenario. All the others are RPG systems. That's a wee bit intimidating lol.
I think, in the final tally, the most important thing is to ask questions like: Does Barrowmaze inspire people to play? Do folks find it compelling? Is it fun? Is it challenging? Does it make you think creatively, tactically, logistically? Does it celebrate the early game and its founders? Does it kill your PCs quickly and painfully? Hopefully BM does some of these things :)
In case you haven't heard, there is a short campaign on Indiegogo right now for Barrowmaze gamer tshirts. Please check them out via the link in the post below this one. If you are already a part of the campaign please help boost the signal!
I've been busy playing and painting miniatures in my free time, so I haven't posted much here. Don't let that be a sign of inactivity though. One of the side projects I've been pecking at is a series of fun Barrowmaze Gamer Tshirt designs for an Indiegogo I'm going to run in the next couple weeks. Here's a look at a sweet illo by Zhu. You can't make out all the detail in this file, but it is super cool. Reminds me of an old heavy metal concert shirt :)
I want to thank my players, who are great, and also wanted to express my thanks to all of you for your support and for making Barrowmaze happen. I planned on attending the NTRPGcon regardless, so this makes the whole thing even more exciting.
