Painting Goblins Based on the MM: Part II

Based on the descriptions from the MM brought forward in the previous post, I decided to paint an old Ral Partha goblin dull orange to see if the aesthetic "fit" and could provide a departure from basic green.

I'm no professional photographer, but here are two pics of the Ral Partha goblin with a third beside an Otherworld goblin prepped for painting (side note: I've had this Ral Partha since the early 1980s sitting in an old cigar box).

Please let me know in the comments if you think the look fits or not? Painting goblins like this follows the MM, but moves against the common convention of green goblins (side note II: I filed the base to make him into a slotta).

Thanks!

  1. Looks good! Reminds me of Parkinson's goblins on the covers of In Search Of Adventure and The Forest Oracle.

D&D goblins have never been green...

  2. My goblins are not green, either. They're sienna, tan, brown, goldenrod, burlywood... some sort of brown! :)

  3. Aw ... I had that little guy a long time back. First he was dark gray, then I redid him in chartreuse. He looks great all brick-colored.

  4. I like it. Green goblins are for Bat Man - I prefer mine a sort of red/orange clay color.

  6. Ok great. Thank you for your comments. I've started painting my OW goblins with the same colour scheme. I'll post pics when I have them. My stirges are almost done. They will be first up.

  7. I do have to say I like the orange/brown range colors used on goblins. I have, however, engaged in the practice of describing goblins of different (usually climate) regions in slightly different shades. All of them are a "mottled" skin, and usually an earthy tone - which means they can range to green, but it's usually that muddy gray-green, and never anything green.

Sadly, I haven't had any goblin minis in a very long time. (I lost most of my old 1st and 2nd ed minis a few moves back.)

  8. Orcs were never strictly green, but green-ish. Take a look at the post before this one for the exact descriptions from the Monster Manual.
